Learn about Largemouth Bass Fishing |
Largemouth bass is one of the favorite game fishes by avid fishermen and is considered as the largest among the black bass. The heaviest recorded weight of a largemouth bass was 22.25 pounds. The diet of a largemouth bass consists of little fishes like minnows and crawdads although they also eat small birds, snakes, and salamanders. Although fries tend to group together, adult largemouth bass are solitary creatures. They might gather in one area, but they seldom interact unless it is mating season.
Largemouth bass are feisty creatures, and it is because of its size and feisty behavior that bass fishermen enjoy the sport. Largemouth bass can also fling themselves to the air in order to escape, giving fishermen the thrill of the chase. Because of this, largemouth bass fishing has become a popular hobby. Here are some things you have to know about these fishes to fully enjoy the experience of your largemouth bass fishing trip.
The fight these largemouth basses will put up is very much worth the money and the effort the fishermen give, so it is advisable that you choose the right bass fishing gears. It will not do you good if you are in your favorite spot and find out that you brought a different lure. Also, you have to check your fishing gears before you leave for your trip and make sure that you have everything ready.
In largemouth bass fishing, you have two choices when it comes to artificial lures. You can choose between the soft plastic baits (plastic worms, grubs, tube baits, etc.) and the hard baits (crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, etc). The artificial lure though that seems to work best with largemouth bass is the plastic worms.
The catch-and-release method is usually done in largemouth bass fishing. Because of the large size of their mouth (hence, the name), they can endure repeated hook injuries without really compromising their eating habits or doing any real harm to their gills. This catch-and-release method is especially done to larger-sized largemouth bass.
You will usually see largemouth bass in clear and quiet waters where they hide underneath fallen logs or rocky edges, waiting to strike their prey, so this is where you can easily fish for them.
