Bass fishing is one of the many pastimes that have become not only a sport but a multibillion-dollar business as well. Because of men's love for catching the biggest and the fattest bass, competitions have been held to award fishermen who caught an exemplary bass. From the fishing gear needed in bass fishing to bass boats, the bass fishing industry has helped the economy, especially since many men are into the sport.

The first artificial lure for bass was first introduced in the mid 1800s. It was as simple as an artificial fly, the idea coming from lures made for trout and salmon. But what was once a simple artificial fly lure has now expanded, with many patterns as well as spinners especially designed to catch bass. In the 1900s, bass fishing has become a sport, and with it, specially-made reels and rods were also developed. From then on, the sport grew, with competitions held to award those who caught the biggest bass.
